How to Get Started: A Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Getting hooked up takes less than five minutes. Before you start, log into your Shopify admin, open the Pareto Integrations page, and locate the “How to connect an AI client” modal.

You will need to copy two live values specific to your store:

1. MCP Server URL (Top of the modal)
2. MCP API Key (Make sure it shows the Active badge)

Once you have those ready, choose your preferred AI client below to connect.

Option 1: Connecting to Claude (Web or Desktop)

Claude runs your MCP server securely via Anthropic’s cloud.

1. Open Settings: Inside Claude.ai or the Claude Desktop app, click your profile icon -> Customize -> Connectors.
2. Add Custom Connector: Scroll to the bottom of the list and click Add custom connector.
3. Enter Details: Paste your unique MCP Server URL into the remote URL field (leave Advanced settings empty). Click Add.
4. Authorize: In the Pareto window that pops up, paste your MCP API Key and click Continue.
5. Approve Permissions: Review the access scopes and click Approve.
6. Activate in Chat: Start a new chat, click the + icon -> Connectors, and toggle on Pareto Quantity Breaks.

Option 2: Connecting to ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise)

ChatGPT utilizes Developer Mode and secure OAuth for custom integrations.

1. Enable Developer Mode: Open ChatGPT -> Settings -> Apps & Connectors -> Advanced settings, then toggle Developer Mode to ON.
2. Add New Connector: Go back to Apps & Connectors and click Add new connector.
3. Fill in Details: Name: Pareto Quantity Breaks. Description: Manage discount campaigns via natural language. MCP Server URL: paste the URL from your modal. Authentication: OAuth. Check I trust this application.
4. Authorize: ChatGPT will open a secure Pareto window in a new tab. Paste your MCP API Key, click Continue, and approve the scopes.
5. Activate in Chat: Open a new conversation, click the connector picker (+ icon), and toggle on Pareto Quantity Breaks.
